Side Effects and Lupron Depot

Men: Lupron increases male hormone levels.

• More common side effects may include:
  Breathing problems, dizziness/vertigo, fluid retention, headache, hot flashes, impotence, sleep disorders, joint disorders, nausea, pain, skin reaction, stomach and intestinal disorder, sweats, testicle shrinking, urinary problems, vomiting, weakness
• Less common or rare side effects may include:
  Anemia, angina, anxiety, blood clots, blood in the urine, bone pain, breast development (male), chills, coughing up blood, decreased sex drive, dehydration, delusions, depression, diabetes, diarrhea, dry eyes, dry mouth, duodenal ulcer, enlarged abdomen, fever, hair growth, heart failure, high or low blood pressure, increased appetite, irregular or slow heartbeat, lack of sensation, loss of appetite, lump in throat, muscle pain, nervousness, nosebleed, penis or testicle disorder, pneumonia, ringing in the ears, sore throat, thirst, tingling or pins and needles, varicose veins, vision problems, weight gain

A few other side effects are possible with the Lupron Depot 30 formulation.

Women: Side effects that have been associated with the use of Lupron Depot include hot flashes and/or night sweats in more than 5% of women; and palpitations, syncope, and tachycardia in less than 5% of the women who participated in clinical trials. Other side effects include generalized pain, headaches, vaginitis, nausea/vomiting, fluid retention, weight gain, acne, hirsutism, joint pain, decreased libido, depression, dizziness, nervousness, and breast changes that include tenderness and pain, among others. There have been no deaths directly related to therapy with Lupron Depot.

Lupron is an effective and medically accepted treatment for endometriosis. Despite the fact that many women do experience side effects during treatment with Lupron Depot, women often consider these side effects to be a necessary price to pay for the relief of the severe pain and suffering of endometriosis.
